Hot Magenta Yarn Company Dye Instructions

You'll Need:

  • 1 gram pre mixed acid dye
  • Non-food dedicated pot 
  • Water 
  • Citric acid or white vinegar 
  • Gloves 
  • Spoon or tongs 
  • 100 grams undyed yarn
    • Wool 
    • Superwash Wool 
    • Alpaca 
    • Silk 
    • Nylon 

Step 1 

Soak yarn in room temperature water for 20-30 minutes. 

Step 2 

Dissolve the dye blend in 1 cup of hot water. 

Step 3 

Fill a pot with enough water for yarn to move freely. 

Step 4 

Add dissolved dye and 1 Tbsp citric acid (or ¼ cup white vinegar). 

Step 5 

Add yarn and slowly heat. 

Step 6 

Maintain approximately 180-200°F (not boiling) for 20-30 minutes. 

Step 7 

Allow the yarn to cool completely. 

Step 8 

Rinse until water runs clear and hang to dry. 

Safety:

  • Avoid breathing dye powder 
  • Wear gloves 
  • Keep away from children and pets 
  • Do not use food preparation equipment
